C., MONDAY, AUG. 31, 1942 Three Stills Destroyed In Polk By Federal Agents Agents of the alcohol tax unit here Saturday announced destruc tion of three 60-gallon stills in Polk County last week, as well as ^►vquipment and 250 gallons of iyrup and mash at two of the places. The federal officers destroyed the fisst outfit, a sheet iron unit, in the Green River section of Polk county. The other two stills, which were of the wood steam type, were found in the Howard’s Gap section of Polk. The stills were idle. No arrests have been made Saturday, it was reported. Whitesides, Mill Spring, Route Two, 1 tire and 1 tube. -Continued on Back Page_ Tryon School System To Open Tuesday, Sept. 1st All schools of the Tryon system will open for the 1942-43 session/ on Tuesday morning, September 1st, art 9 o’clock. After the open ing exercises in the auditorium, pupils will be given instructions concerning the year’s work and dismissed for the day. The public is cordially invited to be present on the opening day. Program: Scripture and prayer, Rev. R. W. Blanchard; song, “America”, Audience; Sblo, L. Edwin Beach; address, Dr. W. P. Jackson; an nouncements, Supt. Marcus B. Caldwell. Information as to the amount of money necessary for work books, materials, and supplemen tary readers will be sent home on Tuesday so that fees can be collected on Wednesday and work not delayed. In the first seven grades, free textbooks are furn ished, but in order to have a standard school, additional funds are required. The state rental fee for high school students is again $2.40. The cost of workbooks will be given out Tuesday. The bus schedule will follow the same route as last year, the Lynn trip first; the Valley trip, second and the Hunting Country trip, last. The afternoon trips will be made in the same order. Attention is called to the fact that no child within a radius of a mile and a half of the school building is allowed by the state to ride the bus.
